HIMALAYAN TREK

From Kathmandu we will travel to the city of Pokhara in the center of Nepal.  This is a popular place to begin treks in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas.  Pokhara is in the vicinity of several lakes and nearby a hotspot for local permaculturists. It is from the banks of Begnas thaal (lake) that we will begin our trek up through the foothills.

A short hike from the lake we will travel through a village supporting sustainable techniques. Among the villagers encountered along the way we will briefly visit the homes of a family producing herbal medicine as a tradition as well as a successful small coffee plantation started by a man on land his neighbors said was so bad it was only good for grazing.

The trek will wind through the various villages in the Himalayan foothills. We will stop along the way at a traditional Gurung village which will allow the trekker a view a hill culture in contrast to those encountered in Kathmandu and Chitwan, as well as the opportunity to see a section of the vast Annapurna range. The trek will conclude where it started in Pokhara before heading back to Kathmandu.
