WHAT YOUR FEE COVERS
Your fee covers all program related expenses from your arrival at the airport in Nepal through the final gathering after the trek. This includes all food, accommodation, travel within Nepal, and activities scheduled into the tour. You are responsible for your own airfare, restaurant meals, medical concerns and insurance, and any other personal activities.
Lodging accommodations in both Kathmandu and Chitwan will be in clean and comfortable guest houses. The trek portion of the trip will be a professionally led tented tour. Accomodations for the final permaculture certification will be rustic on a farm outside the Kathmandu Valley. Meals served will often revolve around the ethnic cuisine of daal bhaat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), but will be supplemented with Indian and Continental cuisines.
For your personal expenses it is always good to have cash on hand in case of an emergency, though traveler’s checks are always safer. ATM’s may be the easiest way to go as machines are common in both Kathmandu and in Pokhara and rates are extremely competitive, especially when larger amounts of money are taken out (over $300) at one time. Many great souvenirs can be bought in Nepal for relatively inexpensive prices. The amount of additional money you bring depends on what you intend to buy or if you intend to travel after the tour.
HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATIONS
Upon arrival we will have an orientation on general guidelines to stay healthy while in Nepal. Personal meds should be brought from home. Many medicines including those related to gastrointestinal disorders – the most common ailments for travelers in Nepal – can be purchased relatively cheaply in Nepal. For additional travel and immunization information see the Center for Disease Control website for South Asia .
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We highly recommend that you pick up some form of insurance before your trip. In the least it can put a worried mind to rest in the face of unexpected circumstances, at best it can be a lifesaver. Travel insurance is not covered in the cost of the tour, however, it can be purchased through various companies at a fairly inexpensive price. There are many companies that advertise short term travel insurance with different levels of coverage. You are encouraged to check it out and find a company with the level of coverage that satisfies you. A few good options are listed below, though searching around is never a bad idea:
- HTH Travel Insurance
- STA Travel (for students)
- World Nomads Insurance
