Mukunda Raj Aryal has been giving lectures on the history and culture of Nepal since 1972 when he became a Lecturer for Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu as well as an academic advisor for the Wisconsin year abroad program in Nepal. Dr. Aryal continued his studies as a Fulbright scholar in the U.S. from 1980-82 when he got his Master’s from State College in New York, Buffalo, and proceeded to get his PhD from Benares Hindu University. He was granted the Long Service Award from Tribhuvan University for over 30 years service to the Institution where he served as Chair of the Department of History, Culture and Archaeology from 2002-07. To date Aryal has written, co-written, or aided in the publication of eight books mostly pertaining to the culture, art and architecture of Nepal. Additionally, he has published a wide variety of articles on these same themes.
Since his initial work with foreign based programs in 1972 Dr. Aryal has been a lecturer, tour guide, and academic advisor consistently for at least five college level study abroad programs and is regularly contacted as an expert in his field to guide foreign visitors through the rich and artistic history and culture of Nepal. As a result of his dedication and knowledge within his field he has received additional awards or grants from both France and Japan, and continues his research to this day.
