Bronze and Brass Museum
The world famous Bronze and Brass museum is just opposite the National Woodworking Museum in Tachapal Tole area. This museum is the latest attraction for the travelers. The artifacts in the museum takes you to a different era altogether. It houses a huge collection of brass and bronze artifacts which reflect the Newari lifestyle. Newars are the indigenous people of Nepal. Most of the artifacts are beautifully restored and are in excellent condition. They date back to Mallas period. On the display are materials used by the commoners and the royal people. Platters of worship, horns, water pots, lamps, inkpots with inlay works and bookshelves are some of the items displayed in the gallery.
Every item symbolizes something, for e.g. the large inkpot reflects the eagerness of the Kings towards education and learning.
This Bronze and Brass museum in Bhaktapur, Nepal has been selected as one of the world heritage sites as it houses some of the worlds rarest brass and bronze articles which gives a huge insight into the history of Nepal. Bronze and Brass are alloys of copper. Copper in its pure form cannot be used to make sculptures as the metals used in sculptures are required to be molded in cast.
The museum is open on all days except Tuesday and Public holidays. You can visit the place between 10:15 am to 4:45 pm. The entry fee is a very nominal amount, the museum authority charges extra if you are interested in photography and want to take your camera inside. If you are a history enthusiast, then your trip to Nepal shall not be considered as complete without a visit to this intriguing museum.
