Natural History Museum

Natural History Museum is based close to Swayambhunath Hill in Nepal and holds steady partnership with Institute of Science and Technology. This museum along with the Institute carries out the co-ordination of programs and projects for aiding in research as well as preservation of endangered flora and fauna species. It is considered as least visited museums that is part of the valley. However, it houses numerous insect species and rare birds. The increasing popularity of Natural History Museum has solidified its significance among other institutions in Nepal.

Natural History Museum boasts amazing diversity in its exhibition hall comprising of over 9 000 specimens which includes flowering and non-flowering plants. This museum also boasts stunning collection comprising of around 40,000 invertebrates as well as vertebrates. One can even view prehistoric shells, interesting fossils, snakes, butterfly collections and numerous skeletal remains which are on display. Nepal Natural History Museum includes a number of stuffed crocodiles, a variety of animals and birds in exhibits. It also includes separate segment meant for insects containing collection from Himalayas. The exhibits have been organized and displayed in accordance with their evolution.

The plant section comprises of a range of grasses and herbs that are found in Tarai region and Himalayas. Museum educates public and people who possess interests in life cycles of animals, birds and plants who stay alive in high altitudes. Natural History Museum along with Technology Institute endeavors to research enhanced ways for conservation and protection of distinctive natural landscape. This place has put in efforts to educate people on how to safe guard fine-looking natural surroundings of Nepal. Visiting hours of the museum is from 10:30 AM to 5 PM with Saturday as a closing day.
