Nepal National Parks

Some of the popular national parks include Royal Chitwan Park, which is the oldest park that houses about 45 different species of mammals and more than 450 birds. In this park, you can get to see the popular one-horned rhinoceros, gharial crocodile and other animal species like striped hyena, monitor lizard, python, wild elephant, palm civet, and barking deer. While the range of endangered birds includes Bengal florican, black stork, peafowl, jungle fowl etc. In addition the park is engaged in conducting research studies especially on the wild variety of fauna and flora.

Shey-Phoksundo Park is the largest park situated in the mountainous area of Western Nepal. The park has a broad collection of animals like serow, Himalayan tahr, black bear, leopard, weasel along with different types of plants and trees. Besides, there is a collection of striking birds. It is however important for you to pay strict attention to the tour guide when visiting the park as it is filled with extremely dangerous animals. The guides provide full safety services to the visitors.

The other leading heritage park for you to visit is the Sagarmatha Park. The park is a must-visit for you as it includes the world's highest peak Mt. Sagarmatha and other famous peaks like Kangtaiga, Kwangde and Lhotse. In this park you can locate goral, tahr, musk deer, snow leopard, maren etc. It is also a home for the Sherpa community primarily involved in trading herd animals and livestock.

Similarly, there is Koshi Tappu Wildlife sanctuary located on the flood plains of the river Sapta-Koshi. The sanctuary is prone to floods during heavy monsoon making it not suitable for you to visit the area in rainy season. This serves as a major habitat for wild buffalos, birds, fish etc. The reserve is also filled with scrub forest, deep grassland and riverine forest.

Khaptad Park is another beautifully situated park with heavy vegetation and rare creatures like monal, griffin, blue magpie, kalij pheasant etc. In addition the park has a collection of attractive looking moths and butterflies. While in the midst of the park you can find the well-known Khaptad Swami's ashram. Since the park holds high religious values you will be prohibited from violence, smoking or other illegal activities when visiting the park.
