Patan Museum
Patan Museum reflects the long-established sacred art of the country in the form of memorable architectural setting. The gilded door as well as window of the museum faces a stunning square, which is one of its kinds in the world. The museum is located in uptown palace compound belonging to Keshav Narayan Chowk, this compound has been there right from 1734 and had been brought into existence by moving out a Buddhist monastery. The monastery as well as palace lies on the older foundations of Licchavi Period. The restoration of the building had been done by His Majesty's Government of Nepal and Austrian Government. The opening of the museum was finally done in the year 1997.
The garden that is present in the back side of the museum has a comfortable and cosy resting place. This garden also has the The Patan Museum Café which is operated by Summit Hotel based in Kathmandu. The crafting of Patan Museum Café has been done with the intention of complementing the splendid period ambience made by builders and architects. The café provides a fine blend of western and traditional delicacies as also some light meals. The museum houses excellent gift shop which is involved in selling of exclusive handicrafts relating to the valley along with the museum reproductions.
The exhibits kept in the museum highlight the long cultural history of Nepal. A number of these objects are found to be cast bronzes, traditional crafts as well as gilt copper repose piece for which the place has received a lot of popularity. This place has over 900 artifacts on display, which belong to both Hindu and Buddhist culture and tradition. There are statues of Lord Bishnu as also Buddha along with some other Hindu deities.
The museum can be visited from 10:30AM to 4:30PM and is kept closed on Tuesdays.
