Shey Phoksundo National Park
Shey Phoksundo National Park is the largest national park of Nepal. It covers an area of about 3500 kilometer square. The second largest lake of Nepal, Phoksundo Lake, is located in this park. The lake’s outlet is a huge waterfall, the highest to be found in the country. The altitude variations in the park (from 2130 m to 6883 m) provide different elevation points with different climatic conditions and diverse species of flora and fauna.
The park is considerably popular with tourists. It is not difficult to reach the park. The best way is to take a flight to the Juphal airstrip that is located in Dolpa and thereafter walking to the entrance of the park.
The winters can be cruelly freezing at Shey Phoksundo. And the monsoons are likely to create unwanted disruptions in your plans. Therefore, summers are the best time to visit the park.
There are both individual and group trekking treks at Shey Phoksundo National Park. You can easily enjoy your days camping here since there are comfortable camping facilities complete with toilets and rubbish pits in the park.
